italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Greetings,
My name is Tom Willette. I am a lecturer in the Department of the
History of Art at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (USA). My
research chiefly concerns the historiography of Italian art in the early
modern period and the role of this literature in the development of
historical consciousness and political identity prior to the period of
national unification. I have just completed an essay on the publication
history of the clandestine editio princeps of the VITA of Benvenuto Cellini
(Naples 1730, not 1728), and I have sketched out several chapters for a
book on art historiography and regional identity in Italy circa 1560-1800,
several of which, focusing on Naples in particular, have been published in
preliminary form in various places.
I look forward to participating in your discussions.
Sincerely,
Thomas Willette
