The issues raised by the Census results seemed to demand public discussion.
The meeting noticed below gives opportunity to ask questions that may get
lost sight later when what may turn out to be a Pandora's box of more
detailed Census results are available.
Please circulate the message to anyone who you think might have an interest
and encourage them to come the meeting and to express their conceerns.

THE UK 2001 ONE NUMBER CENSUS RESULTS
Meeting at the RSS 1500 hrs to 1700 hrs Thursday October 31st.
The Official Statistics and Social Statistics Sections have organised this
meeting to deal with the surprise and concern at the results of the 2001
Census released at the end of September.
The meeting will be introduced by John Pullinger of the ONS will identify
the main issues, describe how they have been tackled, and give
illustrations based on the estimates made for particular local authority
areas.
He will be joined by ONS colleague Michael Rendall and Ian Diamond,
Southampton University. A number of expert discussants will start the
question and answer session.
Fellows and visitors are welcome - no need to pre-register.
