Dear Sirs,
I am not a subscriber of the SIMULIIDAE list, and therefore my attempt to
submit a message to this list failed.

Thank you for your time and help!

A quantitative sampling of adult blood-sucking flies was performed in
2001-2002 around a large copper-nickel smelter at Monchegorsk (68oN, 33oE),
Kola Pns, Russia, in order to detect pollution-induced changes in abundance
and, possibly, in diversity/species composition. Changes in abundance are
obvious, and the results will be published elsewhere. Several specimens of
Simuliidae have been determined to species level; there are 7 species found
so far. However, the largest part of the material (preserved on cotton
layers) is sorted to family level only, and there are no realistic
prospects for further determination. If someone is interested in these
samples (there are several thousands of blackflies, 200+ Culicidae, 100+
Tabanidae, 250+ Phlebotomidae) and can provide determinations for a joint
ecological publication, please contact me by email [log in to unmask] (NOTE: I am
NOT a subscriber to the listserver - do NOT use 'reply' command!)
Yours sincerely, Mikhail
