The ĦOut of Oblivion˘ project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is a new initiative to promote greater understanding and awareness of the unique historic environment of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Your challenge will be to bring the Authority˘s Sites and Monument Record (SMR) out of Ħoblivion˘ and into the 21st century; developing a publicly-accessible, electronic source of information on the historic environment of the Park. Key elements of the project include: interpreting and synthesising existing information, and presenting it in a way that will engage existing audiences and reach out to new ones; encouraging and improving the educational use of the SMR; promoting research, understanding and enjoyment of the historic environment; and encouraging active participation by the public in the collection and interpretation of information about the historic environment of the Yorkshire Dales.
The successful candidate will have at least a degree or equivalent in archaeology or related subject, three years post-qualification experience in SMR work or Community Archaeology or teaching, and a good understanding of archaeological sites, monuments and landscapes of all periods, particularly in an upland context. Communication skills are essential, both orally and in writing. Good organisational skills and project management experience are also essential.
