Subject: The Scientific Measurement of Poverty and Social Exclusion
Dear all
You might be interested to hear about this year's Cathie Marsh Memorial
Lecture. It is held jointly by the Royal Statistical Society and the Social
Research Association.
This year's topic is 'The Scientific Measurement of Poverty and Social
Exclusion: Findings from the Poverty and Social Exclusion Survey of
Britain'.
The Poverty and Social Exclusion (PSE) Survey of Britain is the most
comprehensive and scientifically rigorous survey of its kind ever
undertaken. It provides unparalleled detail about the material and social
deprivation and exclusion among the British population at the close of the
20th Century. Findings from the PSE Survey will be discussed in the context
of important recent developments in the scientific measurement of poverty
and social exclusion in Britain and other European Union countries.
David Gordon (University of Bristol) and Jonathan Bradshaw (University of
York), both members of the team working on PSE Survey, will give the talk
and lead the discussion. The lecture will be chaired by Ceridwen Roberts,
the SRA Chair.
The seminar is on 26 November 2002. It is free, and will take place at the
Royal Statistical Society headquarters, 12 Errol Street, London, EC1 (see
www.rss.org.uk for a map of directions). It starts with coffee at 4:30pm,
and ends with a drinks reception at 7:00pm. Simply turn up on the night.
The Royal Statistical Society and Social Research Association look forward
to welcoming you.
Yours sincerely
Juliet
