Dear All,
Phew! The "german-studies" list has certainly hit the new academic
year running. I don't want to stomp on the burgeoning discussion
about Anglicisms (well, not yet, anyway), so for those who are
finding the increased volume of postings off-putting, and who don't
want just to hit the "delete" button (thanks everyone for keeping the
subject headings relevant), let me remind list members that you can
receive all messages sent to the list bundled together as a single
daily "digest" e-mail, if you prefer. There are three "flavours"
available:
(a) MIME format: one message carrying all the day's messages as
individual attachments.
(b) HTML format: as above, but also preserving message formatting
coded in HTML.
(c) traditional format: one long plain-text message containing all
the day's messages in sequence.
If your e-mail program is sophisticated enough (and most are these
days), the best options for this list are (a) or (b), since they
preserve "foreign characters"; with (c) these characters get garbled.
To change your subscription to any of these, send a message to
<[log in to unmask]> (NB: *not* to this list address!) saying in
the body of the message (subject line irrelevant; suppress any
internet signature), respectively:
set german-studies nohtml mime digest
set german-studies html digest
or
set german-studies nomime digest
You can cancel the digest at any time and go back to receiving
messages immediately they are posted by sending the following command
to <[log in to unmask]>:
set german-studies nodigest
If you have any problems changing your subscription options, just let
me know.
