Dear EMS people (undergraduate and postgraduate),
PLEASE READ this CAREFULLY and inwardly DIGEST.....

BACKING-UP YOUR WORK BY THE END OF TERM
Once the present term has ended in December (on Friday 13th - only 6
weeks away) I will begin clearing ALL EMS hard drives in ALL the
studios the following week (Monday 16th December onwards).
It is therefore UP TO YOU to ensure that you have made Data CD copies
of ALL YOUR WORK, both current & completed projects BEFORE this time.
Please set aside time towards the end of term to do this !
The reason for all this are three-fold:
1. You need to develop/maintain the habit of backing-up your own work
up (especially undergraduates who are new to this area).
2. I need to defragment/clean all the hard drives from term-to-term
to ensure that they are working efficiently.
3. The tape backup system that runs every night needs to be
periodically resynchronized, tapes reformatted and/or replaced if
worn-out.
---
We have blank CDs available at 70p each that will hold up to 650Mb of
data each... and there is a
'HOW TO MAKE A DATA CD' guide on EMS LEARN, under the 'Online
Assistance' link....

best wishes
