Colleagues may be interested to know that on Friday we put the new
Biz/ed site live. We have re-designed the site to give it a much
clearer view on the information we have. The main features of the new
site are:
* An enhanced search engine. The search will now rank results according
to their relevance and give much fuller details of the page so that you
can get to what you want quicker. There is also an advanced search page
to give you more control over your search strategy. The search box is
available on every page of the site to give instant access.

* A new 'Current Topics' section. This section has up to date news, a
newsfeed, weekly newsletters and a monthly supplement with sample exam
questions, case studies and general features. There are now four
different weekly newsletters - introductory and advanced business ones
and introductory and advanced economics ones. These all have a piece of
stimulus news, how the theory relates to the story, a topic of the week
and questions and answers. There are printable versions for class use
without the answers!

* The Biz/ed Virtual Farm - you can now try running a farm for 10 years
and see if you can make it profitable. All through your 10 years you
are given relevant financial information and you can make a range of
decisions on how to manage the farm.

* New subject listings for all subjects and specifications - we have
tagged every page on the site according to the subjects and levels they
are relevant for, and now produce subject by subject, course by course
and topic by topic listings. The listings break the resources down into
all their different types, so for example you can now see all the
worksheets we have for 'transport economics' or for 'accounting and
finance'. We have also added listings for AVCE Business, Leisure and
Recreation and Travel and Tourism - unit by unit and board by board.

* Up to date news and internet resources information right from the
front page so you can see what is going on and link straight to it
whether news items, or web sites. These are updated all the time to
ensure they are bang up to date all the time and all our news stories
are carefully written to include relevant theory and analysis for
business and economics students.
* We have also tagged every page with keywords relevant to that page,
so from every page you can look up web sites related to that page, look
up definitions of terms on the page and search the In the News archive
for news stories related to the page. This way students can get much
deeper into the topic or issue they are examining.
* A quick jump box from the front page to allow you to jump straight to
the subject and course you are interested in.
Hope you like the new design - do let us know anything else you would
like to see.
Best wishes,
Andy Beharrell
