Call for Proposals, 2003 LITA National Forum
Norfolk, Virginia October 1-3, 2003

Due Date for proposals: December 21st, 2002

The 2003 National Forum Committee seeks proposals for high quality
concurrent sessions at the 6th annual LITA National Forum to be held
at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel, Norfolk Virginia, October
1-3, 2003.

The Forum theme for 2003 is:

Putting Technology Into Practice

Providing effective service in libraries today is all about putting
information technology into practice, to serve remote and on-site
library users, search and manage collections, and create digital
collections. The Forum Committee is particularly interested in
presentations that highlight specific technology implementations in
any type of library. Proposals on all aspects of library and
information technology are welcome.

Possible proposal topics include, but are not limited to:
Uses of metadata
Integrated access to resources
Electronic books
Services for remote patrons
Virtual Reality
Customization/personalization
Design & Management of portals
Streaming media
Authentication/privacy
Wireless technologies
Uses of XML
Search engines
Managing technological change
Electronic journals
Distance education
New user services
Preservation of digital records
Collaboration software/technologies
Open source software
Resource linking strategies
Creation of digital libraries

Presentations must have a technological focus and they must pertain
to libraries and/or be of interest to librarians. Concurrent sessions
are approximately 75 minutes in length.

For the first time, Forum 2003 will also accept a limited number of
poster session proposals. Presenters should indicate their interest
in a poster session on proposals.

Presenters are required to submit handouts one month in advance for
the Forum notebook, and handouts will be made available on the Web
site after the event.

Your proposals are welcome and much appreciated! To submit a
proposal, send the following information via email (in ASCII, Word or
RTF format):

         Abstract and brief outline

Level indicator (basic, intermediate, or advanced)
