A new breed of human spider has emerged in the Scunthorpe area, having
crawled out of the Van Hoogstraten school of charm.
He has rented an empty shop on a 'dying' parade not far from the hospital. As
usual, the 2 shops still open, a chip shop and a general stores have along
with the closed shops a large area of hardstanding back from the pavement
which is technically the shops land, used communally by all comers to the
shops. Also a bit of free parking near there for hospital patients/visitors,
an oasis in a sea of yellow lines surrounding the charged-for hospital car
park (funny I thought NHS hospitals belonged to the govt and hence the people
so why are we being charged for parking in our own buildings??)
No doubt the hopsital parkers also brought some passing trade to the sad
looking struggling shops still open.
Our nice human arachnid has rented an empty shop with a small notice in the
window, which of course no one ever looks at as it is obviously an empty shop
saying anyone parking on his precious rented land will be charged £90 for
unclamping their car. He then waits in his web and only has to get one car a
day for (allowing for cheap shop rental and the cost of 1 or 2 heavies at
£4.20 an hour) an income of around £20-30,000 a year. Less work than being a
fireman or lecturer I guess.
The trouble is these shops have 2 supermarkets within a mile, and this will
surely push stung motorists off there. I always thought that wheelclamps, (a
bit like fireworks), should NEVER have been sold to the public or to private
companies but only to police/traffic wardens. Short of ensuring you always
have a hacksaw in your boot, you motorists now need eyes in the back of your
head when you are NOT driving too!
