Full-time PhD Studentship
Analysis of retinal images in glaucoma
Faculty of Science, The Nottingham Trent University
(in collaboration with the Institute of Ophthalmology, UCL)
Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness and visual impairment. A PhD
studentship is available to research new quantitative, statistical and
computational techniques for an imaging technique currently being used in
clinics to diagnose and monitor glaucoma patients.
The project is an exciting one and benefits from collaboration with leading
international vision researchers at UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital in
London. Results will be presented at conferences in the US and Europe, and
extensive travel funding for this is available.
A suitable candidate will have a good honours degree, or MSc in
Mathematics, Statistics, Computing or Physical Science. It should also
appeal to those with an interest, or background, in AI or Neural Networks.
Knowledge of vision science will not necessarily be required but good
computer-programming skills will be a key advantage. The 3-year studentship
is open to UK and EU candidates and is worth around £10K per annum (tax
free), with all fees for PhD registration waived.
Applications (CV, including 2 referees and a statement of interest) should
be submitted (see below) before October 31st 2002.
Applications, or request for further details, should be submitted to the
project supervisor, Dr. David Crabb, Faculty of Science, Nottingham Trent
University, Clifton Campus, Nottingham, NG11 8NS. (Email:
[log in to unmask], Tel: 0115 848 3275).
