Agreed, but what has that got ot do with it? The
patient I had in mind was a buglar who had a few
drinks before setting off and crashed his car on the
way sustaining a minor head injury. He legged it from
the scene and was caught when he knocked on someones
door with blood all over his face from a scalp lack.
He didn't require resus. I was asked by the police if
he was fit to give a sample and said yes. I wasn't
asked to decide if he was competent to give informed
consent. He later claimed in court that his refusal to
give a sample was due to being unable to give informed
consent as a result of the minor head injury and I
ended up in court being grilled on my assessment.
Cheers Fred.
