Dear all,
WELCOME BACK....
a beginning of term update.
<please note - this info will be reposted again in a week or two to
catch new ems email recipients who are not yet on board>
EMS PREMISES
The EMS has been updated considerably over the summer period, with an
additional undergraduate studio (enabling a larger intake to Level 2),
updating to all undergraduate studios, and a new dedicated 8channel and
multimedia equipped studio for postgraduate and staff use.
An enormous thank you to Ian who has worked largely unaided to install
all the new equipment in time for the new term. Do come and admire the
beetroot coloured carpet in the new postgrad space (thanks Estates, not
our 1st choice of colour....)
EMS Recording - staff and student projects
The removal of the Dept Computer Room from EMS to room 269 means that
there is now a bit more book-able time available for staff and student
recording purposes (the recording area, with yamaha disklavier grand
piano). Some time is now available in term-time and evenings, and more
in vacation periods. NB: Ian Stonehouse cannot act as a recording
engineer for staff or students, he's too busy elsewhere. Please arrange
your own assistance from a qualified student as necessary.
EMS LEARN web page
In addition to the public ems page (homepages.gold.ac.uk/ems) can I
remind you of the online teaching materials and information at EMS
LEARN (mu200.gold.ac.uk login as student, password is stanley). I have
recently updated these pages and will be continuing to do so in the
next weeks. You can find information on EMS here, including class
handouts from tutors teaching in EMS, online manuals and the EMS
handbooks).
Any student or member of staff is most welcome to join the ems-news
email list (email Ian Stonehouse to do so). Tell your friends...
Visiting composers etc
Nic Collins (previously of STEIM, Netherlands, now of Chicago School of
Art) will be giving a talk 2pm (probably 167) on Thurs Oct 31st, as
part of the M.Mus studio course and also for Level 3 advanced
composition (studio path). But ALL are most welcome to attend the talk,
it's informal and will be fascinating.
Further talks/seminars will be announced via ems-news and noticeboards.
Can I point out that the first three talks of the Music Research Forum
(open to undergrads, postgrads, staff, human beings....) feature
studio-based composers: Michael Young, Li-Chuan Chong and Dominic
Murcott. Look out for the notices. Tuesdays, 4:15 in 167 (sometimes 280)
EMS Induction sessions for new postgrad recruits - look out for Ian's
notices on this.
thanks,
Katharine
