Hi Dave,
Not sure what there is to overcome - surely that is in the patients'
best interest? Understandably very popular with patients and tries to
steer them into the correct stream - GP, A&E, revisit from district
nurse or Community Paramedic Officer (CPO)/PEC, reassurance, etc. Fewer
patients being moved to A&E at present following introduction of the
scheme.
I'm not claiming we're stemming the flood into A&E, as Danny will attest
(many of which self-transport to A&E), but hopefully making inroads
towards those patients who feel they may have time-critical pathology
that cannot wait some hours/days for GP assessment - they are not really
keen to wait several hours at A&E either.
What is of interest to us is how many patients need A&E for "top-up
care" as they are on a waiting list for definitive treatment
(cardiac/surgical).
