Yes that works for me for my desktop P4 PCs on 6.2
when using standard RedHat NFS install (not LCFG).
You don't have to use a 2.4 kernel: you just have to configure
the install rpmrc file with that arch_compat line.
So using an NFS/HTTP install, the file
-installbase-/RedHat/instimage/usr/lib/rpm/rpmrc
would have the following line added after (say) line 155:
arch_compat: i?86: i686
If that could be applied to the LCFG install machine so that
LCFG could be installed on a P4 from install.gridpp.ac.uk
I'll leave to others to decide ....!
