The next biannual Beveridge lecture hosted by the Royal Statistical Society
will be held in the spring of 2003.
The RSS is seeking the lecturer. They say
"Basically we are seeking a high profile and effective communicator to talk
on a topic of relevance to the impact or use of statistics in relation to
society (or another way of
looking at it is that it is about statistics of relevance to people's
lives). .. The speaker does not have to be a statistician but we do need
to be confident that they believe in the importance of statistics say from
the point of view of good governance. It is perfectly acceptable for them
to draw on work they have already published - in fact this can be a
positive advantage."
This slot must surely belong to social policy - that could be said to owe
its existence to Beveridge??
As an RSS activist I would be very happy to pass on suggestions of
individual who could fill this prestigious occasion.
Please email me with nominations.
