Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries, on behalf of the
New Opportunities Fund, is calling for proposals to undertake a formative
study of best practice in the delivery of the People's Network ICT training
programme for library staff in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The
budget available is in the region of £94,000, with a completion date of
April 2004.
Overall aims of the work will be to:
- build a body of knowledge based on the experience of public library
services through participation in the ICTL programme that will serve to
inform the continuation and future development of ICT staff training beyond
the life of the Fund's programme
- review different approaches to training delivery within the context of
the characteristics of different public library services
- consider issues of quality, consistency and curriculum to contribute to
the establishment of appropriate accreditation frameworks for future ICT
training in the public library sector
- consider the organisational implications of delivering ICT training for
public library services to enable future best practice to be adopted in
this and related sectors
- consider any implications this may have for Annual Library Plans, Public
Library Standards and formal training programmes for the sector in England,
Wales and Northern Ireland
This work will complement that being undertaken by the New Opportunities
Fund on the impact on users and library service development of the People's
Network ICT learning centres and ICT training for library staff programmes
at regional and national level. Work here will consider the achievement of
the Fund's policy and organisational objectives of encouraging more adults
into learning and promoting social inclusion, as well as secondary or
process objectives associated with the programmes at regional and national
level such as achieving Best Value.
