Pharmaceuticals in Australia:
Access, Costs and Industry Development
This note is to invite you to a major conference to be held at the
Centre for Strategic Economic Studies in Melbourne on 16 September 2002.
This conference will examine some of the key challenges, both in terms
of health and industry development, which Australia faces as a result of
massive change in the pharmaceutical industry. How can national policy
adapt to sustain equitable access to drugs, in the context of emerging
changes in drug markets? How can the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme be
sustained, while rewarding innovation? How can we facilitate rapid
growth in the pharmaceutical and related industries in Australia? How is
global change and local policy affecting the prospects for small biotech
companies?
The conference aims to contribute to the knowledge base necessary to
address these and other issues, and to broaden the debate within
Australia. The preliminary results of a major Centre for Strategic
Economic Studies research program on pharmaceutical issues - Equity,
Sustainability and Industry Development - will be reported. Leading
figures from around the country will contribute to an informed debate on
the main strategic issues facing Australia in this area.
The registration fee for the full day conference is $195, which includes
lunch and a copy of presentations made. More details on the program and
the participants are provided in the attached brochure or on our website
http://www.cfses.com/pharma-conf-02.htm together with registration
details. My colleagues and I hope that you will be able to attend.
