LECTURESHIP/ SENIOR LECTURESHIP IN GERMAN STUDIES
Applications are invited for a Lectureship/ Senior Lectureship in German
Studies. The appointee will have a proven research record in contemporary
German studies, and will contribute to the teaching of the BA in Modern
Languages and European Studies and at least one taught Masters
programme. S/he will have:
· a specialised knowledge of either contemporary German cultural/ literary/
film studies including the culture/ politics interface. Applications are also
welcome from candidates whose expertise lies in German history (preferably
20th century).
· a good knowledge of the wider 20th century European cultural and historical
context, and a commitment to working collaboratively on European themes in
teaching and research.
· very high level of competence in German (able to teach advanced language
classes and use German as the medium of instruction).
· an established research profile, together with evidence of ability to attract
external research funding.
The Department provides a friendly and supportive environment for new
colleagues and has a wide range of research expertise. It gained a grade 5A
research rating for European Studies in the 2001 RAE.
The appointment, from 1 February 2003, will be made on either the Lecturer
B scale, currently £25,455 - £32,537, or on the Senior Lecturer scale £34,158
- £38,603. An international research profile and an excellent track record in
gaining external research funding, including funding for larger projects, will be
expected of candidates seeking appointment at Senior Lecturer level.
