It is a problem.
It is assumed that we need to know about good web resources, however,
we don't want to overload the list with advertisements
But the problem does arise that publicity through the list is a key way
for people to find resources. The difficulty
arises that if the individual was not associated with Tutor2U then
they are simply highlighting a web resource that they have found very
useful and it would be appropriate to publicise it over the list,
similar to mapping BBC articles to curriculum requirements. However,
because the person is raising awareness of their own product then it
might be frowned upon.
A potential 3rd way would be either Tutor2U or Bized hosting a
password protected area just for list members so that they can upload
links their recommended sites. It maybe reinventing the wheel but it
would appease all members of the list.
Personally, I'd favour the situation where people can publicise their
sites, but if they are of poor quality, then they can be shamed on the
list ! Brutal, but effective.
Thoughts?
