INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTS AND SCIENCES PROGRAM
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, PERFORMANCE/CULTURAL STUDIES
Interdisciplinary scholar/teacher/practitioner working in the fields of
Performance and Cultural Studies (pending funding). We are particularly
interested in candidates whose scholarship engages non-literary archives
such as dance, visual arts, music, theater, and/or new media. Candidates
will be teaching within an upper-division curriculum that closely integrates
the humanities, sciences, and social sciences; they also may contribute to
the development of a new MA in Culture Studies in the next 2-4 years.
Candidates should have at least 2 years of teaching experience and a PhD (or
equivalent experience) in any relevant field, including Performance Studies,
Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Ethnomusicology or Music
History, Dance or Dance History, Art History, and Cultural Anthropology.
IAS houses innovative upper-division and graduate programs and is part of a
rapidly growing campus located 18 mile northeast of Seattle. IAS stresses
links between different fields of inquiry, seeks candidates who will teach
and participate in the evolution of a broadly interdisciplinary program, and
has access to the research and funding resources of the three UW campuses.
Successful candidates will be able to offer courses that build on existing
student interest in culture and the arts, while also integrating those
interests into the program as a whole. Candidates should have a
demonstrated commitment to pedagogical innovation and should be prepared to
teach an upper-division core course that introduces students to
interdisciplinary inquiry. The ability to integrate the appropriate use of
educational technology to further learning outcomes is welcome. The
standard teaching load is 6 courses over 3 quarters; salary is commensurate
with qualifications and experience.

qualifications for an interdisciplinary program with an emphasis on
innovative pedagogy, a research abstract, a CV, and a sample syllabus.
