I am sorry to be a party pooper but I thought this was an academic
social model list NOT an impairment specific award ceremony.
Why does one impairment group deserve more attention than another? Are
people with cerebral palsy, Neurodiverse? Surely, this 'bravery' model
merely reinforces separatist approaches.
Further to this, surely every disabled person is worthy of due attention
since we all suffer human rights abuses.
All disabled people deserve a better life and this can only be achieved
through universal policy.
Many Thanks, Simon

I forgot to include Donna Williams website in one of my earlier emails.
Although she does not address social model language as we know it, she
does
work within a powerful, social model framework and celebrates diversity
to
the full. Whilst at the same time, acknowledges, past experiences of
human
rights abuses which have been levelled against her, as a consequence of
being
neurologically different/differently brained.
