I agree that Larry should be the first President of NeuroDiversityAction
(when it gets going…?), we desperately need a discussion forum, a website
and who knows - a conference around self-advocacy - in the future??
As Colin has powerfully stated, there is an URGENT need for a self advocacy
forum which supports (disabled people) who are neuro
divergent. - the genetic underclass is an understatement. There are indeed
lots of lives to "reclaim" and "profound" prejudices and discrimination to
challenge within mainstream society.
I wholehearteldy support this forum but have one stipulation - more
women! :-) A couple of months ago I met Donna Williams who identifies on
the autistic spectrum. As luck has it, she lives fairly near me. Learning
about her work has been very important and a tower of strength to me (and
others). Donna delivers professional, human rights-no nonsense-cut out the
crap - training and consultancy. Let's get organised, some of us have waited
far too long.

I know that Larry, others and I discussed the idea of Neuro Diversity Action
about 2 years ago, but due to a lack of interest in never took off.
I believe now in speaking to Liz and Adrian it is now the right time to
re-establish Neuro-Diversity Action and embrace this group to be 'owned' by
all individuals who are neuro-diverse.
We need our own platform to 'speak-out. I for one do not want to be
controlled by neuro-typicals. I can speak-up for myself and I am sure Liz,
Adrian and Larry would endorse the idea of a self-advocacy group controlled
and run by neuro-diverse individuals.
I for one am fed up of neuro-typical professionals and charities who
patronise me. I want a real voice and when I make complaints I want to be
listened to and not 'gagged'.
I (we) need to educate neuro-typicals within society of our diverse culture.
We have been socially excluded throughout history through the medical
discourses and I believe it is now time that we re-claim our lives back.
Neuro-diverse individuals have become the genetic-underclass within society.
I(we) are not genetically 'abnormal', but genetically 'different' which means
that we are abused and discriminated against.
I(we) need to speak-out in a forum and establish ourselves as a group who are
going to challenge abuse within society
against neuro diverse individuals. We need to challenge the attitude and
tokenism shown towards 'us'.
Now, let's stop the talking and see some action. I for one would like to see
our own website developed with a forum for discussion.
I also put forward Larry Arnold as the first president of 'Neuro-Diversity
Action'
Regards
Colin R
