Chronological Modeller (trainee)
A Research Assistant (RA1A or B) is sought for a training post in
Archaeological Chronology Building in a Bayesian Environment. Clive Orton,
Professor of Quantitative Archaeology at UCL Institute of Archaeology, is
seeking an RA for 18 months to train in this area of skills shortage. The
RA will also work closely with the Scientific Dating Section of English
Heritage. It is the intention that at the end of this contract the
postholder will be able to undertake chronological modelling independently
on a commercial basis.
Salary: £20,399 to £22,445 p.a., including London weighting, depending on age.
Starting date: as soon as possible after 1 October 2002.
Requirements: candidates should possess an MA/MSc or PhD in Archaeology
with a strong quantitative element, or a comparable qualification in
Statistics with some experience of field archaeology. Experience of
excavation and post-excavation analysis would be a distinct advantage.
Candidates should also possess good communication skills (both written and
oral). They should be prepared to travel widely in England, and to attend
the 18th International Radiocarbon Conference in Wellington, New Zealand.
