This is just a quick reminder that the deadline for submission of
tenders for the undertaking of the ALT-C study is Monday 30
September 2002.
As you know this is a study commissioned by ALT to
consider the future of our main conference, ALT-C.
I am including the ALT Conference Study draft terms of reference in
this email, please read to the end to see the response required if
you would like to apply.
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to identify and review options for future
ALT conferences and recommend a five-year plan commencing
September 2004.
Need
The format for the ALT annual conference has remained largely
unchanged since the first conference held in Hull in 1993. Since
then numbers attending have grown and the place of learning
technology in tertiary education has assumed a greater importance.
The present mode of operation is not amenable to further growth
and places local organisers under considerable stress. Greater
numbers also limit the choice of university venues as most can no
longer accommodate a conference of the size reached in Edinburgh
in 2001. The current practice also results in a relatively slight
degree of control by ALT over an activity that is instrumental in
defining ALT as an organisation.
ALT’s aims for its conference
ALT has a number of aims for the conferences it organises:
* providing a forum for interchange between learning technology
practitioners
* promoting excellent e-learning research
* providing insight into the latest developments in e-learning (new
tools, products and services)
* generating funds to support other ALT activities
* securing recognition as Britain and Europe’s premier forum for
learning technology in tertiary education
* strengthening relationships with members (both individual and
corporate) and attracting new members
Some of the above result in opposing tensions. The consultant will
need to review these aims and propose a strategy that addresses
them.
Timetable
The study is to be conducted over a period not exceeding two
months and will be submitted to ALT no later than 6 December. If
possible an initial draft should be submitted for review by designated
ALT Executive and staff members three weeks prior to this.
Your response
We are looking to members to undertake this as we cannot afford a
standard commercial fee, however, a figure has been set aside for
this small study. We would like to know what your fee would be for
undertaking this work.
We also would like to know how long it would take you to perform the
evaluation, what your approach would be and when you could start.
Please include this information along with,
* A brief proposal on how you would approach it (up to 500 words)
*Other relevant experience you have (similar projects you may
have worked on).
