Dear teachers of Nuffield Business and Economics
'Just Business' have been in discussion withexaminers from Nuffield BP
about this years work around coffee and have tried to produce a range of
resources and links that should be of great help to your students this
year.This can be found at:
http://www.jusbiz.org/coffee.shtml
This resource section has not been finished yet - we are just putting the
final touches to 'The Coffee Game' where students take on the role of
different families in different countries who are all dependent on the
Coffee industry. This game explores the impact of crop failure, take-over
bids, changing prices and other events on livelihoods, incomes and
employment prospects in the coffee industry. It also begins to explore
co-opertaives (what they are and how they work) and shows playes the
opportunity that fair trade presents to consumers and producers alike to
contribute to a fairer trading system.
We are also awaiting a case study (based on the Biz/ed format) on Cafe
Direct and other resources.
HOW WILL THEY BE USED?
Exam in January and July focussing on Coffee
In November they start on their modular work and through a Coffee study
could explore either globalisation or/and competition
Hope this helps. Any feedback on these resources would be greatly appreciated.
best wishes
