Letters send by the Struggle for Mobility Rights, Korea, to JIL
??letter dated on 20 Sept.
We thank all of you for your support and encouragement.
It is our pleasure to inform you that we the Struggle for Mobility Rights
finished the hunger strike as of 19 Sept. And Mr. Park Koung Suk, Principal of
the Nodul Night School for the Disabled, concluded the 38-day hunger strike and
entered hospital.
The open letter of apology demanded by us could not be issued by the City of
Seoul. However, the city agreed to install a lift at all subway stations in
Seoul by 2004 and to establish a committee on introduction and promotion of
low-floor bus. It is decided that 3 representatives of the Struggle will be
appointed as committee member. With the agreement, our purpose will be
accomplished.
It was a very hard struggle, but we could solve the issue due to your valuable
support. We are especially grateful to member organizations of the Japan
Council on IL Center (JIL), DPI-Japan, and other organizations and individuals
in many other countries whose concern and support made us stand much firmer.
We appreciate you very much
The disability movement in Korea including the Struggle for Mobility Rights
promises to strongly move forward.
? Letter dated on 22 Sept.
We stopped the hunger strike and started the preparation for a new action.
We are ready to organize a citizen’s festival at the marronnier park this
coming Saturday. This event is to let the public know the actions we have made
as well as to resolve on a new action.
If possible, we would like to introduce our strong tie with IL centers in
Japan. The international solidarity of disabled person’ s movement will give
strength to local self-help organizations of disabled persons.?
