Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI) is a non-governmental cross-disability
human rights organisation with a membership of national assemblies of disabled
people in more than 160 countries.  DPI’s governance structures, as outlined in
its Constitution, rests on the elected representatives from the organisation’s
membership and/or national assemblies represented in its World Council and
Executive Committee.  The Executive Director, as outlined in the By Laws, is a
non-political post. The ED will have the overall responsibility for the DPI
Headquarters office in Canada and for financial, administrative and networking
management.

The Executive Director will be expected, within budgetary restrictions and with
the written permission of the DPI World Chairperson and Hon. Treasurer, to
travel on behalf of DPI.   As per our Bye Laws, the ED must be a disabled
person.

Duties

To have overall responsibility for:
? Financial probity, policies, budgeting and management of DPI internationally
(but not regionally), including fundraising, liaison with and reporting to
funders.  Strategic planning - development and recommendation to the Executive
committee of a strategic plan including the preparation of budget scenarios.
Policy development and analysis. Development of fundraising strategies and plans
and assist regions, when requested, in reaching their funding requirements.
? Smooth running of the Headquarters secretariat, personnel policy and
supervision and administration
? Fulfillment of all DPI’s legal and statutory obligations
? Capacity building of the organization, staff, volunteers and members. Ensuring
the membership of DPI both at national and regional levels are kept fully
informed and integrated into the activities of the organisation
? Provide technical assistance, information, support, guidance and supervision
to Regional Development Offices as requested
? Provision of Disability International on a regular basis – in close
collaboration with the Information Officer and Chair
? Implementation of DPI programs, policies, objectives and strategic Action Plan
as agreed and directed by the DPI World Council, Executive Committee and the
World Assembly
? Organize and ensure smooth running of all Executive Committee meetings, World
Council Meetings and World Assembly
? Support of the World Council in all its activities
? Provide information and copies of any and all presentations made on behalf of
DPI to the Executive Committee and World Council members to the UN or any of its
agencies by the DPI Chairperson or a member of the Executive Committee
? Ensuring policy analysis and drafting of UN related documents and DPI policy
papers.  To seek the permission of the Chair prior to submitting any such
document.
? To organise, with the Chairperson, representation of DPI at all United
National and INGOs activities and support those selected for that
representation.
? Any other activities as will be designated by the Chairperson and Executive.

Job Specification

Essential qualifications:
Direct experience of disability; Proven commitment to and implementation of the
human rights of disabled people; Proven commitment to and implementation of the
direct representation of disabled people in all policies and programmes that
directly affects them; At least four years managerial and administrative
experience; At least four years financial management; Experience in fundraising,
both in applications and reporting; Excellent reporting skills; Proven
experience in human resource management and supervision; Knowledge of
international affairs and the working of the UN.

Preferable qualifications:
Knowledge of Spanish and French; Training or degree in Management and/or
Accountancy; Ability to communicate at the highest level of government.
