6.2 FILTER proposals sought
Full text of this message can be viewed at
http://www.filter.ac.uk/secondphase/
Would you be interested in funding to develop image-based learning
resources for use in Further or Higher Education? Are you currently
using or looking for ways to use digital images in your academic
work? The JISC-funded FILTER project is offering an opportunity for
you to develop your ideas and provide useful resources for the FE
and HE communities. You don't need to be an IT expert; it is your
subject knowledge and awareness of the use of ICT in learning and
teaching that we seek.
The FILTER project aims to enable the effective use of digital
images within and across a range of subject areas in FE and HE.
These will be delivered via a Web-based database
(http://www.filter.ac.uk/) containing a variety of image-based
resources exemplifying effective use of images in learning and
teaching. We are seeking proposals from FE or HE practitioners for
the creation of image 'datasets' that will meet learning and
teaching needs in relevant subject areas.
Proposals should be for the development of resources exemplifying
both effective use of images and sound pedagogical practice. They
should meet a real or anticipated need and aim to engage students.
The resources should be in electronic format but are not limited to
being Web-based.
Image datasets are currently under production in a number of
subject areas:
Archaeology
Civil Engineering
Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences
Information and Computer Sciences
Physical Sciences
Sociology, Anthropology and Politics
An example of a FILTER resource under development can be viewed at
http://www.brookes.ac.uk/geology/FILTER/intro.html
Additionally, similar resources can be viewed on the Bristol BioMed
Learning and Teaching Web site at http://www.brisbio.ac.uk/bblt/
Proposals covering the following subject areas or others where
there may be crossover between FE and HE are currently being
sought:
Agriculture, Food & Forestry
Business Studies/Accountancy
Construction
Economics
Education
Hairdressing & Beauty
History
Hospitality/Tourism
Languages
Librarianship
Mathematics
Music
Nursing/Midwifery
Performing Arts
Pharmacy
Politics
Sociology/Social Work
Sport & Leisure
Project funding is available for the development of 10 additional
datasets. Each author will receive £3,500 GBR for complete and
on-time delivery of an image dataset as set out in the project
Brief (http://www.filter.ac.uk/secondphase/brief.doc) and
Guidelines (http://www.filter.ac.uk/secondphase/guidelines.doc).
The deadline for proposals will be 20 September 2002. A project
proposal pro forma is available to download at
http://www.filter.ac.uk/secondphase/proposal.doc
