Subject: Freelance work opportunity at LIP
The Modernisation Team - Disability and Leeds Involvement Project
wish to appoint a
Group Development and Support Worker -
For the Reference group of the Modernisation team - Disability
The Modernisation Team wishes to enter into a contract with an individual,
working freelance, who would provide support for this group and carry out
some other involvement work. The worker will be supported and managed
through Leeds Involvement Project (LIP).
The Reference Group, of about 20 disabled people, was established in January
2000. The group works with the Modernisation Team -Disability in taking
forward action points on the joint commissioning, development and
performance management of services for disabled people with physical and
sensory impairments in Leeds. The group also works on their own priority
issues regarding service provision to disabled people in Leeds.
The group meets once a month. The worker will support the group including:
meeting preparation; minute-taking and meeting facilitation; advice to the
group on furthering issues; research on behalf of the group; enabling the
group to make links with other disabled people's groups; organising speakers
and training and will undertake other involvement work for the Modernisation
Team as and when necessary.
The Modernisation Team and LIP use a Social Model of Disability framework
and the contracted worker would also need to approach work in this way. The
contracted worker will also be expected to have a strong commitment to
equality of opportunity and involvement of all disabled people in the work.
The contract will be for 40 hours a month: total £6012 for an 12 month
contract. Reasonable expenses will also be paid.
The worker would be expected to attend daytime meetings in Leeds and make
themselves available on the telephone to group members at a regular time
each week, either from home or the LIP office. LIP will provide
administrative support to the worker.
