Hi, we have a project underway for which we need to hire some graduate
level research assistance on a short-notice, temporary basis. The project
is based in Chicago, IL and Rochester, NY and we are seeking graduate
students with prior qualitative research experience. More detail is
provided below. Please forward to anyone you think might be interested.
Sincerely,
Elaine
The Project:
Through the Rehabilitation, Research and Training Center (RRTC) at
Mississippi State University, the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) is
examining innovative practices at private service agencies that bolster
their ability to overcome environmental barriers to improve employment
outcomes for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. In this
research, we are looking at policies, services and service delivery models
of the agency, as well as how the policies, services, and delivery models
specific to the utilization of assistive technology and job site
modifications impact employment outcomes for people who are blind or
visually impaired.
In this phase of the research, we are going on-site with private service
agencies that also support internal employment opportunities through
manufacturing programs. The purpose of these visits is to understand in
further depth the policies versus practices, consumer perspectives, the
internal operations of the agency, and greater detail behind some statistics
and initial information gleaned through telephone interviews.
Dates:
Chicago, IL -- Sept 5 & 6, can meet evening of Sept 4 to do pre-brief
Rochester, NY -- Sept 9&10, tentative, could either meet on evening of the
6th or the 8th to pre-brief. Could potentially move to 10 & 11, but would
need to check with agency.
Specifics:
- hours would likely be 8am-4pm
- honorarium of $100/day
- role would be more of observer, follow-up questioner as needed, input to
triangulate data collected
- AFB would also be willing to provide documentation of your participation
if needed for academic or professional records
