hello activists
I'm finding all this talk about people having the opportunity to take
control over voicing their differences; some what painful this morning.
Today should have been the main conference day of 3 days for the ADHD Lilac
"Will Someone Recognise Me!" Conference http://www.adhd-lilac.co.uk
However the University of Lincoln has withdrawn the use of their facilities
for this conference. Due to substantial works proceeding on the building
where the conference would be held, which would compromise the health and
safety of attending delegates, had this conference proceed.
That's interesting the 1st time any billing work was mentioned was when I
received notification by E-mail that the University was withdrawing the use
of their facilities for the lilac conference at the end of July.
This conference was planned to be residential to provide lots of workshop
opportunities for people with first hand experience of AD/HD and similar
neurological conditions to voice there views around their needs and changes
society needs to make to ensure equal opportunities.
Many think we should be rescheduling to hold this conference next year.
However this was organized without any funding and from grass roots not from
charities and organisations without first hand experience. Maybe charities
will have seen the concept and try to do something similar. I have been
contacted by a charity offering to facilitate the ADHD lilac conference on
our behalf. They would certainly have access to materials and finances that
I didn't have for the organising of this lilac conference.
Personally I wanted this conference to be totally independent not trying to
build any Castle or empire just a one of conference totally independent to
voice views and get them published for others to move forward with that
future times. Not for anyone to make any financial gains from the work of
the conference. To ensure this was organised as cheap as possible giving
everyone opportunity to participate. All speakers and workshop facilitators
were donating there time and expenses for free.
Still not quite back to square one the conference web site is still up and
running hopefully more information will be provided on that site to and
maybe we will get the opportunity to get stimulated again to hold the lilac
conference next year.

someone with first hand experience of ADHD (diagnosed), AS (un diagnosed),
dyslexia (diagnosed) and CMT type of muscular dystrophy (diagnosed) "think
that represents 1st hand experience"!!!
