Dear H-Net, H-Geog: Thanks for rerunning this "last call" for papers. Arn
"Last Call" for Papers/Panelists, AAG 2003, New Orleans, March 3-8, 2003
We are seeking to round out a second panel on this topic, so if you
passed
it by the first time, please consider joining us in New Orleans.
Histories and Geographies of Pollution
As part of a proposed series of sessions on environmental history and
geography, this panel will explore the history and geography of
pollution.
Though long a core concern of environmental activism, the history of
pollution control has received somewhat less attention than that of the
preservationist environmentalism. However, pollution histories encompass
such diverse themes and issues as health and sanitation, environmental
justice, science and technology, economics, politics, culture, and
ecology.
Its geographical aspects, from urban settings to hinterland industrial
pollution to the mobility and global reach of environmental contaminants,
further underlines the salience of interdisciplinary approaches to
pollution history. We invite papers from scholars working at the
intersection of history, geography and ecology that explore these and
other
aspects of pollution through historical geographical research. Please
forward your enquiries before the end of August to Craig
Colten([log in to unmask]) and Arn Keeling ([log in to unmask]).
