we are working a band 3 hybrid at sothampton at the moment and the trust
want to reduce it to a 2A full shift system .we work out that to cover
annual leave study leave and protected days and still provide 24 hour shift
cover you need at least 8 middle grades

Subject: Re: Rotas for SpRs
> We have been interested to read the discussion regarding SHO rotas. As a
group of SpRs we have been found to be working a non compliant 24 partial
shift rota, due to inadequate rest periods. The Trust management now want to
enforce a prospective cover full shift rota using 4 SpRs from Monday to
Friday with 6 SpRs Friday to Sunday (Band 2A compliant). This will give 24
hour shop floor cover. It will mean that for about 2/3 of the year due to
study/annual leave, the Monday to Thursday SpRs will be doing 12 hour shifts
in our two busy inner city A&E departments.

other big units in the UK have 24 hour SpR shop floor cover and with how
many SpRs on the rota?
