Phil,
I certainly dont mean any offense by these comments, and I understand
this reflects what is common practice around the UK. But this is a shocking
roster - SHO's are clearly still just roster fodder.
I wouldnt expect any one to work this. The 14 hour night shifts are
appalling and unsafe - 14 hours in a high intensity environment like ED is
just wrong. Maybe your Department is quite at night - and they pull off 3-4
hours sleep - but I got the feeling from previous postings that its not. If
someone is on leave - which allowing for annual / study / sick leave is
probably >>50% of the time then they are working 3:4 weekends - which is IMO
is inappropriate, even at SHO level.
If your middle grade roster is similar then (14 hour night shifts / 3:4
weekends) then surely no-one is going to want to work it longterm ?
As I say no offense intended here - Im just surprised that this is
considered a compliant and acceptable roster.
cheers
Craig
