SCHOOL OF EARTH SCIENCES
Te Kura Taatai Aro Whenua
Lecturer in Human Geography (3 Year Fixed Term position)
(Ref: SA0236E)
An exciting lecturing opportunity exists for a human geographer. A
three year position in human geography has arisen as a result of Dr
Philip Morrison assuming the position of Head of School, Earth
Sciences. Geography is the largest programme in the School of Earth
Sciences and encompasses undergraduate and graduate programmes in
environmental studies, as well as graduate programmes in development
studies and physical geography. Geology and geophysics are also
taught in the School. The School has a strong research culture and a
substantial number of graduate students in each of its programmes.
The School prides itself on the excellence of its teaching, which is
underpinned by research and scholarship. More details of the School's
programmes of teaching and research may be found in:
http://www.geo.vuw.ac.nz/
The successful applicant will have a PhD in geography with one or
more of the following specialisms: economic, urban or population
geography, as well as an accompanying knowledge of quantitative
methods. Duties will include the teaching of courses at undergraduate
and graduate levels on aspects of urban, population and economic
geography as well as supervision of graduate research. Details of the
programmes offered in Geography are available on application or from
the School's website. The appointee will also be expected to pursue
their own research.
As the University and the School would like to increase the number of
Maori and Pacific Nation members of staff, applications would be
particularly welcomed from Maori and Pacific nations persons.
Consideration of applications begins Sept 13th, 2002. It is expected
that the successful applicant will be able to commence their duties
on or before 1 February 2003.
An application pack is available from the HR Assistant, Faculties of
