An increasing number of people have auto-replies incorrectly set up on their
computers, during periods of absence. The incorrect settings make them all
too PRESENT- for everyone on the list! ;-} These are not supposed to be
addressed to discussion lists. Settings should be arranged so that they go
to the relevant list owner NOT THE WHOLE LIST. The address of the
discussion list manager/owner is always -

I have spoken to one or two subscribers who are not able to change this on
their mail package or network setup. If this is the case, the worst case
scenario is that you must either NOT use the auto-reply feature on future
occasions or be removed from the list when it happens- sorry - but the
prospect of potentially hundreds of auto-replies sent each time any genuine
message is sent to 900+subscribers is untenable and could potentially
spiral. OR.......
There are other options: you could disable your receipt of messages from the
list temporarily
while you are on holiday. See.....
