Planning Archaeologist
County Archaeological Services

County Archaeological Services maintains the County Council's SMR and
provides an archaeological planning and conservation service to the County
and District Councils, and many other organisations. Your main
responsibilities will be to:
Provide advice on the implications of development both within the
statutory planning process and on those matters outside it
Provide advice on local strategic planning policies and cultural
strategies
Prepare design briefs, validate specifications and monitor
archaeological investigations
Promote the historic environment of Oxfordshire through outreach
activities including use of the OCC website
You will need a relevant degree, a broad knowledge of British archaeology,
wide fieldwork experience (especially excavation) and good verbal and
written communication skills. Experience and enthusiasm for ICT
applications including GIS is also essential. Membership of the Institute
of Field Archaeologists is desirable.
