To all
I have only recently rejoined the list after a long absence, so I thought I
would re-introduce myself. I am a philosophy postgraduate at the University
of Hull, England and a lot of my work is done on Philosophy of the Body. I
use philosophical perspectives such as phenomenology, to describe the
experience of being disabled. I have cerebral palsy and I mostly
concentrate on physical disability - indeed my BA dissertation was on the
disabled person's experience of pain. I am currently doing a MA.
I'm sorry but I have to say why I left the list in the first place. The
politcal may indeed be personal (I never agreed with that platitude) but the
personal attacks were getting a bit too pesonal. I lost faith in the
disability movement because of the feelings of some, I stress the some, of
its members - I would get off list messages telling me in less polite
language to get off the list. Being accused of being against the
disablility movement simply because I did not agree chapter and vere with
the social model hurt.
Anyway, I'm sure we've all had this, I'm not God's only lonley man with this
experience, and look forward to more fruitful discussion.
Thank you for your time
Michael Gillan Peckitt BA
