A competition has been launched to design the official postcard for the
European Year of Disabled People in 2003. The European Commission, which is
organising the Year in close co-operation with the European Disability
Forum, is asking young people aged between 10-15 to illustrate the changes
they would make to ensure disabled people get a fairer deal. The aim of the
Year is that all over Europe disabled and non-disabled people will take
action to make changes, so that disabled people are treated equally in
society.
One winning drawing will be selected per country and these will be used to
create the official postcard and e-card for the European Year of Disabled
People. The lucky artists will also win a trip to Brussels to an awards
ceremony in December 2002 on the European Day of Disabled People.
The competition is open to all young people from 10 – 15 years old, disabled
and non-disabled. The message from Anna Diamantopoulou, European
Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs is: “If that’s you, or
someone you know… start drawing!”
