I am sure the way forward is senior cover 24/7 but could those departments which already have them please post a sample rota so we can see just what is entailed. My small unit (35,000 but soon to merge) could not sustain the levels of staff needed, unless there was some form of trade off with other departments for weekends and nights. As the majority of attendances are medical and minor injuries, are we approaching Emergency Medicine as the answer - nominally A&E staff but in effect medical emergency middle grades working full shift rotas?
