No personal experience of these for clinical use, but have heard numerous
negative reports, mostly themed around:
1. Theft - they are frequently put somewhere when an urgent clinical need
arises and are never found again. Or they go absent in changing rooms,
especially in Operating Theatres, but also in ED.
2. Confidentiality - a problem mainly because of 1. It takes a few seconds
to bypass the password with code-busting software which is widely available.
And YES THERE IS a reason to do that even if the thief is NOT after clinical
information - he/she may well be out to get the other software loaded.
3. Passwords tend not to be used anyway as they become a bother...
4. Time saved by some who are comfortable with computers is wasted by others
who are not. Files go missing. Data gets lost...
I personally prefer laptops for my needs and have got rid of the handheld I
had as a present. But the ideas above were all from handheld users.
