I guess I have to say something now.....
There are some quite good near-side testing kits for
detecting many drugs in a patient's system.....
the problem is that some of them cross react with
other substances, which are as yet outside the law.
The best example is ecstasy.... the drug resting kits
cross-react with "CAT" a chewable tree bark that has
increasing use in the Somalian population. It contains
amphetamine dirivitives and as yet CAT is not illegal.
This prevents the tests holding up in a court of law.
Also, demonstrating drug presence in the blood doesn't
directly infer loss of psychomotor function (well not
legally anyway..... so again I doubt if it would stand
up in court.
The bottom line is though, we all know people who take
drugs and drive are putting themselves and others at
risk of serious injury or death. I guess it's proving
the obvious link beyond reasonable doubt that counts.
