Dear Goat,
In my last hospital, the staff grades had been working
10 sessions for 10 sessions of pay, even though 1 in 5
(with internal cover) of those sessions were 'out of
hours' - late shifts till midnight, weekends etc (but
not on calls). In April (with the support of the
clinical director) they claimed 13 sessions of pay to
compensate for the out of hours workload. The threat
was that if no agreement was reached by May, they'd
only work till 10pm, not midnight. If still no
agreement by June, they'd do no weekends. If still no
agreement by July, no weekday lates at all. The trust
agreed within weeks to pay 12.5 sessions and everyone
was happy. A 25% pay rise for no extra work! So to all
staff grades out there who are getting no extra pay for
your out of hours work, there is hope!!
Giles.

This is just insulting.
