>Our dept 30K does not have sufficient middle or senior staff for 24*7 cover
but I terrified the PCT on wednesday by pointing out that with the GP's pulling
out of acute care, they would have to pay for someone to do it and we would
not do it without 24*7 middle or senior cover.
The wimpered and went away.
>All of the A&E departments in Glasgow (Victoria 72K, Glasgow Royal 67K, >Western
Infirmary 60K, Southern General 43K) all have 24hr resident >"middle grade cover"
with rotas made up of SpRs, Staff Grades or SHOIIIs >- experienced SHOs - all
of these departments have 24hr consultant cover >on call from home outside office
hours.
>
>As far as I know the following also have the same arrangements - >Crosshouse,
Kilmarnock (55K) RAH, Paisley (55K) Ninewells, Dundee (50K) >Edinburgh Royal
Infirmary (95K) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (65K) and >Monklands Hospital (60K).
The size figures are a rough figure from >memory.
>
>Most of the folk in Scotland think you must have someone more >experienced
than an SHO available in A&E 24hrs a day with consultants >available from home
within 10-15 minutes.
