NCVO's 8th Researching the Voluntary Sector Conference

The conference
NCVO's research team has been organising the Researching the Voluntary
Sector Conference every year since 1994. During the 2-day event, researchers
from the UK and overseas present their work on a wide variety of topics
related to the voluntary sector.
The programme
The opening plenary of the conference will be focusing on the need for
research to provide the evidence for the success of voluntary organisations'
activities by Professor Ken Young from the Evidence Based Police Centre at
Queen Mary University of London.
The plenary workshop on the second day will be organised jointly with ARVAC
on the topic of research in the community sector.
Throughout the two days there will be parallel sessions to accommodate
presentation of 50 papers, on a wide range of topics:
* Volunteering, philanthropy;
* Social entrepreneurs, charity shops, sustainability;
* Enabling democracy, bridging communities;
* Governance, organisational change, organisational values;
* Empowerment, activism;
* Changing relationships between state and voluntary sector;
* Accountability.
The delegates
Attendance at the conference is open to anyone with an interest in voluntary
sector research:
* policy makers
* academics
* researchers
* staff and volunteers of voluntary organisations
* users of voluntary services
This makes it a unique meeting place for researchers and non-researchers to
discuss work in progress, as well as the practical applicability of findings
and the need for further research.
