As I am on holiday back in UK I have only had sporadic access to email and
thus have missed some of the OCR etc discussion.
I was, however, intrigued by Richard's referecen to mcqs and crosswords. I
regard this as an inexcusable slur on crosswords :-) I would love to teach a
syllabus with no mcqs, in Singapore they dictate the way A level economics
is delivered ie mindless, carpet bombing coverage of every damn mcq there
has ever been. MCQs decontextualise economics, promote 'shallow learning',
actively discourage 'deep learning' and allow some students who are
incapable of independent thinking to 'cheat' their way to a grade A.
I could go on........... but...... :-)
Please feel free to flame me all you like, I shan't have regular email
access until the end of June!
Cheers
