There are a number of archaeologists that come into the field with money
inherited from their family (and no, I am not one of them). It is, in my
opinion, grossly unfair to these individuals to imply that they are involved
in less than legitimate activities simply because they have the extra money
to do something like this. And, $1000.00 is not that huge a sum of money,
even for an archaeologists (unless we are talking about a student).
They should be applauded for the willingness to use their wealth to contribute
to a project devoted to educating the public about archaeology, rather than
castigated for having some extra money.

P.S. I have nothing to do with the archaeology channel, nor have I ever contributed
or benefited in any way from that organization. I have examined a couple
of their programs and found them interesting.
