Hi,
This is something I've been thinking about. Could you argue that being FAT
is a disability? I know that if you did, a large section of the media would
be up in arms saying things like 'this is political correctness gone mad'.
have an obese friend. He is extremely talented journalist but time and time
again is turned down for work he's qualified to do. If someone faces
discrimination because of their size isn't there an argument that they
should be protected by the DDA? Does it make a difference if the persons
obesity may be, in part, caused by diabetes? I'm not trying to make a case
either way, as I say it's just something I've been thinking about lately.
Does anyone know if there's been any research or papers about this?
Thanks.
Kirsteen.

Subject: FW: SouthWest, or SouthWorst?
Who fits? In definitions of disability, in airline seats etc. This is an
important issue.

A Special Announcement from Maryanne Bodolay, NAAFA's (NAAFA is National
Association to Advance Fat Acceptance), Executive Director:
Tomorrow SouthWest will put into effect their existing policy on how to deal
with fat passengers. The media is already calling to see what we are
planning. Here are some suggestions on how to make SWA aware of our
commitment to ending this policy:
*Call SWA Customer Relations number (214) 792-4223 8:00 am - 5:00 pm central
time to let them know you are concerned *Call SWA 800 reservation number and
tie up their lines with questions about this policy (800)-I-FLY-SWA *Fax
letters to SWA with your concerns (214) 792-5099 *Get average size friends
and relatives to call and send in letters of support for our community
