Dear List members,
I have recently joined the list, and wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Sarah Teasley, and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Programme of
Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies at the University of Tokyo in Tokyo,
Japan. My main research topic is interior and furniture design in 1920s-30
Japan; I am particularly interested in the relationship between and
definitions of "Japan," "nation" and "modernity" as expressed in discourse
on the home and on bodies, for example on the design and practices related
to sitting in chairs vs. sitting on tatami. Other research concerns the
overseas travels of Japanese designers in the same period.
I look forward to reading and participating in the list.
Best regards,
Sarah Teasley / [log in to unmask]
